We know how important is to measure the oil level inside inaccessible or opaque spaces, for instance, your daily-used vehicle. For this purpose, the mechanical expert uses a dipstick usually to measure the oil level. But what are your solutions to measure the fluid level inside a high-pressurized vessels or tanks, pipeline arrangements, hazardous material containing vessels or industrial process lines?
Because, we know it is next to impossible to measure fluid level of such high-pressurized or hazardous containing vessels using a dipstick. So, here comes the entry of a Level Glass Indicator, manufactured with high precision and high-grade material to resists high temperature, high pressure, corrosiveness, and to provide excellent flexibility and visual level indication of different materials contained in sealed spaces by zero-contact operation.
This instrument is a transparent and robust construction which allows the operators or observers a clear, safe and convenient visual indication or observation of the level of all types of fluids which include liquid, gases, powders, granular materials, plasma and slurries. It is used for visual level indication of any storage tank, hydraulic machines, high-pressure systems, turbines, cooling systems etc.
Due to its high performance and level visibility feature, it is widely used in industrial settings, including bio gas plants, food and beverages, chemical industries, oil and gas plants, electric power plants, petroleum applications, metallurgy and pharmaceuticals. The structure is so robust that it lasts for several years which minimum maintenance even after continuous performance.
Structural Material
There are three common components of Level Glass Indicator which are as follows:
Transparent medium: It is a glass tube that provides clear and accurate visual of fluid level that is either made of borosilicate glass or soda lime glass.
Unit body: The structural material may be made of different materials, including stainless steel, carbon steel or duplex steel – known for high strength and resistance to any negative impact (which we will discuss later).
Sealing: Gaskets and packings may be made of PTFE, silicon or neoprene to suit required temperature and corrosive conditions.
We definitely know how important is level measurement of a vessel to aid in accurate and error-free industrial operations. And, to achieve such high-level programme, different types of mechanism are used such as reflex gauges, bi-colour gauges, and magnetic and mechanical float gauges. The most reliable and profit-oriented method is magnetic and mechanical float level indicator.
How does Level Glass Indicator work?
This magnetic indicator is widely used in fields where excellent strength, buoyancy and corrosion resistance are important aspects. In this mechanism, the Level Glass Indicator is attached to the vessel or tank side-by-side and directly connected with the substance to be measured, so that the indicator responds directly to the substance level inside the vessel or tank.
There are three parts i.e., chamber, float and indicator. The chamber of the magnetic gauge is equipped with a float containing a permanent magnet inside it and the indicator is magnetically coupled with the float. When this magnetic float rises or falls in respond to the measured substance level change in the vessel, the magnetic interacts with the indicator mounted just outside the chamber and causes flags to rotate which cause changes in display colour and provide a visual indication of the current level.
Advantages of Level Glass Indicator
In this three-minute read blog, we have discussed the strength, constructional material, importance, uses and working principle of Level Glass Indicator, and now I will put forth some exciting advantages of this instrument that might prompt you to buy it.
This indicator is known for its durable and robust design, high level visibility, zero-contact performance, resistance to UV, high temperature and high pressure, non-corrosive pivot points which ensure reliable indication, hermetically sealed and field replaceable feature with process disruption.
Apart from measuring and analyzing the fluid level, it is commonly used to measure the fluid viscosity, clarity, colour, quality and other characteristics which make it an ideal choice for numbers of industrial settings.
